Job Description:
Our Ottawa based government client is seeking a Database Administrator for a long term contract. (3 yrs with 2 optional 1 yr periods).
All candidates must possess Enhanced Reliability security clearance.

Responsibilities include:
1. Designing, and documenting Database architecture and configuration;
2. Building and maintaining database utilities, automated reporting and scripts for task automation;
3. Evaluating capacity and performance requirements; Analyzing and tuning database for optimal efficiency;
4. Developing, testing, documenting and implementing strategies for backup, high availability and Disaster Recovery Plans;
5. Defining strategies for the migration of the DWS and associated databases onto the New Computing Platform;
6. Identifying, analyzing, testing and applying software patches and upgrades;
7. Planning and directing the migration of changes from the development environment to the QA, production, and Disaster Recovery environments;
8. Analyzing, investigating problems; coordinating remedial maintenance with external and internal service providers; Developing and testing suggested fixes; promoting fixes as required and documenting resolution;
9. Providing routine database administration tasks required to support or assists multiple environments. Establishing schedules and approaches for these activities in consultation with technical and functional team members;
10. Performing and/or coordinating updates to the database design;
11. Developing, documenting and testing installation kits and installation strategies;
12. Developing and implementing security procedures for the database, including access and user account management;
13. Developing and implementing procedures and scripts monitoring database and database jobs in order to ensure the accuracy, integrity, completeness, and timeliness of data stored in the database;
14. Conducting studies, providing assistance & recommendations to analysts, programmers & and users regarding the efficient use of data;
15. Providing database administration services and support for various development projects related to the DWS as well as other development projects at National Headquarters or in support of regional application development initiatives;
16. Monitoring industry trends. Identifying new Oracle product, conducting impact analysis recommending new database technologies.

The ideal candidate will have::
  • a minimum of 5 years of Oracle DBA experience in a Data Warehouse environment, of which a minimum of 3 years must be DBA experience using Oracle 10g
  • a minimum of 5 years of experience as a DBA in a UNIX environment
  • a minimum of 5 years of experience developing scripts using SQL and PL/SQL
  • a minimum of 5 years of experience developing Oracle stored packages/procedures
  • a minimum of 5 years of experience designing, programming, and executing ETL (Extraction, Transformation, Load) scripts.
  • DBA experience using Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g and performing database optimization and tuning
  • experience in Oracle products installation and configuration including applying patches
  • experience as a DBA, preparing maintaining and executing UNIX shell scripts
  • experience as a DBA in an Open VMS and Windows environment
  • experience documenting database architecture, environments and procedures in a data warehouse environment.
